SYNOPSIS

Yngwie (pronounced “ING-vay”) Malmsteen, born Lars Johann Yngve Lannerback on June 30, 1963, is a world-renowned six-string maestro from Stockholm, Sweden. His revolutionary guitar style – combining elements of classical music with the speed and volume of heavy metal – made him a staple of the ’80s rock scene.

With musical influences drawn from classical composers such as Bach, Paganini and Vivaldi, Yngwie is responsible for birthing the neo-classical genre to the world of rock – mixing his love for electric guitar sound with the melodic content of baroque classical music.

His largely instrumental debut album, ‘Rising Force’, released in 1984, immediately upped the ante for aspiring hard rock guitarists and provided the major catalyst for the ’80s guitar phenomenon known as “shredding,” in which the music’s main focus was on impossibly fast, demanding licks rather than song writing.

‘Rising Force’ won the Guitar Player Magazine’s award for Best Rock Album and was nominated for a Grammy for ‘Best Rock Instrumental Performance’, reaching number 60 on the Billboard album chart.

In 2009, Time magazine rated Malmsteen as among the 10 greatest electric guitar players of all time, alongside the likes of legendary Jimi Hendrix, Slash and Prince.

He released his book, Relentless: The Memoir in 2013, in which he shares his personal story, from the moment he burst onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere in the early ’80s to become a household name in the annals of heavy metal.

Decades later, he’s still a legend among guitarists, having sold millions of albums and influenced generations of rockers since and having sold out shows in arenas all over the world.

Malmsteen’s latest album, “World On Fire” came out in June 2016 and he recently completed the second 2017 leg of his U.S headlining tour.
